This finding is related to the "long tail" P-40 variants. In August 1942 Curtiss decided to definitely resolve the directional problems of the "short-nose" P-40s. They extended their tail, adding an additional segment after station 16. It shifted the original "P-36 - like" fin and rudder back by about 20 inches.

The P-40E appears to be 31.73 feet in length. The P-40F appears to be 31.64 feet in length (31 feet 7 23/32 inches from the Pilot's Manual) These numbers appear to match pretty well with the numbers in "America's Hundred Thousand" by Francis Dean.

#1 Hello, I'm thinking of designing a scale replica for the P40 Warhawk and I'm trying to locate reliable, readable blueprints. So far I've found (p40warhawk.com) which has some free prints though most are unreadable. Plans.aero has blueprints for sale but I have never used their services.

Studying the dimmed blueprint scans, I was not able to read some horizontal ordinates placed close to the top and bottom segments of this fuselage.
